about

Returning after last year’s Dulcet EP, the Leeds based producer Bambooman teases the prospect of further new material with his latest 7”, ‘Rusted’ b/w ‘Thickets’. A concise blast of the beatmaker’s trademarked warm tones, thickly weighted drums and found sound vapour trails, the two cuts work just as well to re-introduce you to his sound world, as they do to introduce you to some of the lad’s forthcoming collaborations.

Honestly, it’s not an overstatement to say that it’s a bit of a coup to be able to put out a collaboration with Jehst, one of the most influential emcees in the history of UK hip hop music. The London based rapper’s early releases - that were later combined onto The Return Of The Drifter LP - are still absolutely seminal and he’s remained at the bleeding edge of English lyricism ever since, building up his own network and releasing a handful of flawless full length projects in the long year’s since.

His vocal turn on ‘Rusted’ is framed with panache by Bambooman, whose minimal sound layers and 4x4 kick leave Jehst the ample space required to mentally unravel, which he does, dissecting colour swatches as he does so. The B-side ‘Thickets’ runs a little lazy and in travelling at more of an amble and incorporating organic elements like bird song and chimes, it feels like the perfect accompaniment to his earlier track, ‘Fields’ (which featured on the B side of Bambooman’s Hollowed 7”), painting a similarly hazy picture of English countryside greenery at dusk.
